悲しくなったときにやってくる輪郭ども…

 

そよ風のような声で口々に悲しみをねだる…

 

彼らの餌になるから… 栄養になるから…

 

悲しみを喰う魔物たち…

Shadowy outlines draw near in times of sadness...

 

begging for woe in voices like the breeze...

 

they eat it... it nourishes them...

 

goblins who eat grief...



嘘は窃盗の手段だ。不正行為や欺きの手段でもある。

Lies help us steal. They help us cheat and bamboozle.


だが無数の小さくて便利な嘘から文明が成立するのだ。

But we also create civilized society with a million tiny lies.


笑顔が嘘になることもある。微笑ましい気持ちが消えたあと一秒でも笑顔をそのまま保つと嘘になる。

A smile can be a lie, when held for a second longer than it’s felt.


財力の範囲外の高価な自動車なども嘘になる。自分が自分以外のものだということを他人に示すからだ。

A luxury car beyond one’s means can be a lie, signaling to others that you are what you are not.


優しくない人が口にした優しい言葉も嘘になる。

A kind word is a lie when you are not really kind.


意図的な嘘もあり、嘘つき自身が後から気づく嘘もある。

There are intentional lies, and those the liar only notices afterward.


人を守るための嘘もある。無知という権利を尊重して嘘をつくこともよくある。

We tell lies to protect people. We aim to respect their right to ignorance.


ほとんどの冗談は嘘だ。芸術作品も同様。

Most jokes are a type of lie. Likewise art.


僕らは嘘に対して激怒する。この激怒も嘘の一種だ。

We are outraged by lies. This outrage is a kind of lie.
