今朝は震度５弱の地震があった。揺れられて目が覚めたがすぐにまた眠れたのでご心配なく。その後ちゃんと起きたら、地震でオーブントースターが冷蔵庫の上から落っこちそうになっていたことが分かった。オーブントースターが壊れたら僕の生活が大いに困るから無事で良かったな。ほっと溜め息をついた。
So there was an earthquake early this morning, about 5 on the Japanese scale. It woke me up—but don't worry, I went right back to sleep. It wasn't till I woke up for keeps that I found that my toaster oven had almost fallen off the fridge. Without that toaster oven I'd starve, so I'm glad it pulled through.

Anyway.
僕の特に好きな色は茶色。でも言葉の音からすると一番きれいに聞こえる色は青い。
My favorite color is brown, but in terms of the sound of the Japanese word, the prettiest must be blue: "aoi".
日本語に母音だけで成立する言葉がいくつかあるが、わりと少ないと思う。「家」や「上」や「覆う」などはあるけど、例はそんなに思い浮かばない。英語だともっと少ないと思う。"I"と"a"しかないと思う。
There are a few words in Japanese that are composed entirely of vowels—ie (house), ue (up), oou (cover), etc.—but they're comparatively rare. In English I believe they're even rarer; I can only think of "I" and "a".
中でも「あおい」が特に好きだ。響きか可愛らしくて人名にも適するね。男性も女性も。
But "aoi" is particularly euphonious. It's even sometimes used as a unisex baby-name.
あ。柔らかい音。
お。まったりとした音。
い。くるりんとした細いしっぽのような音。
The soft Japanese 'ah'.
A mellow 'oh'.
And a slim curly tail of an 'ee'.
