We never communicate; we only hint.
互いに見えも聞こえも知れもしない。だから意味ありげな仕草やふりや手練を用いて伝達を演じるだけだ。そのように、伝えたいことが分かるように相手を騙そうとするのだ。

こちらが相手を分かるように騙したことが今度こちらに分かるように相手が騙してくれてそうなのだったら、こちらの伝えたいことがなんとか伝わったように思われる。
If they fool us into understanding that we've fooled them into understanding us, we can imagine we've communicated something.
