最近思ったこと：社交辞令などを省けて生きていくのが大事だと思う。社交辞令は、自分の立場を悪くする言葉ばかりだ。なぜかというと、社交辞令で得た他人の好意などは、更なる社交辞令で維持していくしかない。一歩間違うと失うかもしれない事がそのぶん増えてしまう。その失うかもしれないことを頼りに生きていってしまうと立つ足がぐらつく。
Japanese has an expression, shako jirei, which literally means 'social words'. These are things that you say, not because you mean them, but to show that we're all pals. The danger is that your pals will mistakenly believe that you mean what you're saying. Then they'll like you. And then, to keep them liking you, you're going to need to use some more shako jirei.
